Music & Movement Classes

(18 Months — 2/3 Years Old)
M&M classes are an introduction to basic tap, jazz, and ballet steps and terminology. These classes stimulate coordination, listening skills, balance, music interpretation, creative movement, and motor development in the youngest dancers. This 30-minute weekly program is an excellent introduction to the world of dance. M&M dancers can wear dance clothes or any comfortable clothing in which they can move easily. This class performs one dance in one of our four recital performances.

Preschool Classes

(3 — 5 Years Old)
Specifically designed for 3-5-year-old dancers with a greater emphasis on tap, jazz, and ballet steps and terminology. This 45-minute weekly class focuses on following directions and engaging the dancer’s creativity and musicality. Dancers wear tap and ballet shoes for this class. Like our M&M students, PreK dancers are exempt from our stricter dress code and can wear any clothes they feel comfortable moving and playing in. Preschool classes perform one tap dance in two of our four recital performances.

Tap and Jazz Classes

(Kindergarten — Adult)
Tap and Jazz are combined into one-hour-long “combo” classes for K-12 and are offered as standalone classes for adults. These classes begin to delve deeper into the intricacies of these dance forms and continue to challenge dancers as their abilities grow. While the focus of the class is tap and jazz, there are some aspects of ballet in each class- as that is the foundation of all dance styles. Dancers wear dance clothes (leotards and tights) or other tight-fitting clothing (booty shorts/leggings/tanks) and will need both tap and jazz shoes. The tap shoe style changes as dancers progress through the levels. These classes will perform one tap and one jazz dance in each of the four recital performances.

Hip Hop Classes

(Kindergarten — Adult)
Hip-Hop classes focus on rhythm, syncopation, and stage presence. Derived from a combination of jazz-funk and street jazz, this style of dance requires high energy, attention to detail, and an understanding of complex rhythms. Class includes a warm-up that concentrates on building stamina, improving strength and flexibility, body conditioning and rhythm isolations. Dancers focus on building a foundation of hip-hop movements and across-the-floor exercises. Dancers wear dance sneakers and comfortable clothing made for movement. This class performs one dance in each of our four recital performances.

Lyrical Classes

(5th Grade — Adult)
Lyrical classes teach the interpretation of a song’s lyrics or the mood of the music with movement that can be fluid or abstract. It is a highly technique-focused class integrating skills from ballet, jazz, and modern dance. Ballet is a recommended pre-requisite or class taken in conjunction with lyrical. Lyrical dancers can wear leotards and tights or dance clothes similar to those required for tap & jazz but are required to wear lyrical shoes.

Ballet Classes

(Kindergarten — Adult)
Ballet classes are 45-minute classes focused entirely on ballet. The student will learn grace, elegance, technique, discipline, flexibility, stamina, and endurance in ballet. We strongly feel that ballet is the most important dance form a dancer can study. We offer ballet for all ages and abilities. All other classic dance forms are built upon the foundation of the skills learned in ballet. Dancers in Intro to Ballet, Ballet I, and Ballet II wear leotards of any color and pink tights (ballet skirts are optional) with ballet slippers. Dancers in Ballet III, Ballet IV, Pre-Pointe, or Pointe must wear black leotards and pink tights with their ballet slippers. We have a more specific dress code for ballet because it helps our teachers observe and correct body placement. These classes perform one dance in each of the four recital performances.

Kick Classes

(6th Grade — High School)
Kick classes focus on jumps, high kicks, turns, leaps, and the precision movement techniques used in high school dance teams and competitive cheer. Dancers can wear leotards, tights, or other fitted dance clothing with jazz shoes. This class performs one dance in each of the four recital performances.
